One of the things I love about my 7 year old son is that he can get himself a glass of milk. Just like he's doing right now. He's getting ready for our interview.
Me: Is this your first interview?
Primo: Yes.
M: What do you think an interview is?
P: I don't know.
M: OK, so an interview is a where I ask you a bunch of questions.
P: Yes, right
M: What kind of things do you like?
P: I really like NASCAR and I like baseball.
M: Who is your favorite team?
P: The Yankees.
M: Why?
P: 'Cause they're the best players around (in a tone of voice that just screamed, "Everyone knows THAT!")
M: Duh!!!! Who is your favorite Yankee?
P: Derek Jeter
M: Why?
P: Because he plays 1 of my favorite positions: shortstop.
M: Why is shortstop your favorite position?
P: Because you are close to the hot corner and you get to make a whole lot of relays to 2nd (base).
M: Where did you learn about this stuff? Like the hot corner thing?
P: Dad said that 3rd base is sometimes called the hot corner because you sometimes get a whole lot of balls.
M: You are teaching me a lot of stuff. Did you know that?
P: No.
M: You didn't know that everybody doesn't know that?
P: So I guess you didn't know about the hot corner.
M: You would be right.
Primo is a wonderful boy. I know I'm his mom and I am biased, but he really is. He's very bright, but what's even better is that he's very loving. He looks out for other kids, especially his baby sister.
Primo really likes baseball. A lot. He and Bubba should have played today, but it rained so much yesterday that the fields were unplayable. It's starting to feel like more games have been rained out than played. That's disappointing to both the boys (and their dad), but I think Primo feels it most.
Primo is a funny guy. He loves telling and playing jokes. He's at an age now where he's so independent in so many ways, but he'll still come up and snuggle with you in your lap. It's a beautiful thing.
In the kitchen, a few minutes ago:
Primo, just in from our mudpit outside (AKA: the backyard) reaches for the bowl containing the Whoppers candies I just poured out for him:
Me: No! Your hands are filthy!
Primo spits in his hands; rubs them together.
Me: No, wash them in the sink.

Take your Bubba to Work Day: The interview
Bub has wanted to come to the office for me for a while now. He used to come with me every day when he was a baby, but then when my mom stopped working, she started watching him for me. So I declared today Take your Bubba to Work Day. I picked him up from school , we had lunch at home, then we came in. He's been here for about an hour and a half. He's started to grumble about how bored he is. So I decided to interview him.
Me: Bub, how are you enjoying being at the office today?
Bub: Good. I didn't know it would be this long. It's not usually this long. Why is it taking so long?
M: It's actually sort of boring, that's why it's taking so long. Bub, what are someof your favorite things to do?
B: Go to the beach.
M: Why?
B: Because I like going swimming and playing on the sand.
M: I like those things too. Who is your best friend?
B: You or Alex or Michael or Travis or maybe it's someone else here at my St. Johns School. M: Bub, if Jesus was sitting right here next to you, what would you ask him?
B: I don't know.
M: You don't know? Did you ever wonder about why certain animals look the way they do...?
B: I do have a couple of question like why did he make robins blue?
M: He didn't make robins blue, they are orange and gray...
B: I mean blue jays blue.
M: Do you think that blue is a good color for a blue jay?
B: uh huh
M: What do you want the world to know about you Bub?
B: (*shrugs* looks at my computer screen) How do you put that question mark there?

Want to see some photos Scott and I took of our hooligans and of the "wildlife" in our yard (which are sometimes the same things)? Check out my Flickr page!

Scott and I just got back from seeing Iron Man. It was awesome!!!!! I am not a huge comic book fan, although I did get into the X-men as a teenager and I have attended at least one Star Trek Convention, but I knew who Iron Man is. This was a great movie. I hope it does well because I want a sequel. Fanboys, stay till the end of the credits. You'll hate yourself if you don't. And girls, Robert Downey Jr. is way hotter in this movie than Patrick Dempsey. Do your husband/boyfriend a favor and suggest this movie. Don't make him go see Made of Honor. Pay to see Iron Man then next weekend, rent My Best Friend's Wedding.
