Is it cheaper...

...to have a repairman come fix my dishwasher or to buy a new one since this one is probably 20 years old. Please advise.

If you have a good old Kenmore that will sandblast day-old rice off your dishes, KEEP IT. You will never find anything to do that job that thing does.
I speak from experience, 3 dishwashers down the road from that old Kenmore, which is probably still working in my old house.

We replaced our old dishwasher this summer because of recall problems and fire hazards and the list goes on (and it wasn't even that old!)

I agree with Barb - our new dishwasher does not do as good a job at the "washer" part of "dishwasher." I'm not sure if it has anything to do with all the energy efficiency stuff out there in the appliance world, but our new one is a little wimpy.

All of this is to say, I'm not sure. Helpful, aren't I? If the cost to repair your dishwasher is almost as much as getting a new one (as was the case with ours), then go for the new one. But if you can salvage the old one and it works well, then keep it.

Again, nothing but help here ;)

Hi Amy-same thing heer-our dishwasher (25 years old) stopped working -we were all set to buy a new one when Jason logged on the repairclinic.com-found out it was a 20 dollar part and fixed it himself-I still dream of a shiny stainless steel one but this one gets dried up food off anything:)
