The two worlds collide!

An acquaintance of mine from church and Primo's school has sent me a Facebook friend request. I like her, and she's a good person and friendly, but I am having an existential crisis of Seinfeldian proportions:

George: Ah, you have no idea of the magnitude of this thing. If she [Susan, George's fiancee] is allowed to infiltrate this world, then George Costanza as you know him, ceases to exist! You see, right now, I have Relationship George, but there is also Independent George. That's the George you know, the George you grew up with -- Movie George, Coffee Shop George, Liar George, Bawdy George!
Jerry: I love that George.
George: Me too! And he's dying, Jerry! If Relationship George walks through this door, he will kill Independent George! A George, divided against itself, cannot stand!
I haven't decided to accept this friend request or not. Feedback?

I know EXACTLY what you mean! :)
There are people from church and the kid's school who have found the blog, or who have found me on Facebook, and I do find myself editing slightly when I think of them.

It's usually when I'm about to be especially snarky, so maybe their opline presence is a good thing for my soul. But I do feel like I have to nicen things up for them. Make sense?

On the other hand, not "friending" them makes me feel like they will think I don't like them and I'm not being friendly.

I'm not good at the "social" part of social networking ;)

meant to say "on-line presence"

too early for typing fingers . . .

I'm not so sure if it's me that I don't want her to see as much as some things some of my friends might post, specifically my brother. Did I just type that? Anyway, I'm leaning toward accepting the friend request. I can't see how she'd be able to delve thru my whole friend list anyway knowing how busy she is.

If it's not your OWN words you're worried about, then I'd go ahead and friend the person.

I know I do more and more self-editing, as more and more people I know are involved in these new media.

I'm seconding (thirding?) the comments here. FB started as a way to re-find neat-o college friends, then a few church parents found me, then a bunch of hs friends found me, then... well, as Aimee says, I'm not so good at the social part. See the virtual world isn't so different from the real one!

Anyway, yeah- what Barb says. And your own thought-- she's probably too busy to look around that closely. And if she is having fun seeing all the connections, and there's just one or two "offbeat" friends, I'm sure she'll take it with a grain of salt.

I mean, really, we've all got those friends!
